Fire has gutted parts of the Abuakwa-Dadiase market in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region.

The fire, which started around 11 pm Thursday from one shop with firecrackers, spread to other shops and destroyed items worth millions of Ghana cedis.

Abusua FM’s Osei kwadwo reported that over 70 stores have been ravaged by the fire.

It is unclear what triggered the fire but personnel of the fire service have been able to douse the fire and prevent the fire from spreading to other shops.

The Assembly Member for Abuakwa Dadiaso Electoral area Kelvin Akyereko commended the firefighters for their professionalism and their swift intervention, if not the entire market would have been razed down.

Some affected traders disclosed that all the goods including their capital have been destroyed by the fire.

“We are appealing to government and stakeholders to come to our aid,” they said.
