The Ashanti regional command of the Ghana National Fire Service says it has attended to five hundred and-thirty-seven (537) fire outbreaks in the first half of the year 2017.

This is however almost half the nine hundred and fifty- three (953) fires the service recorded in the Ashanti region between January and June 2016.

The Ashanti regional fire command at the beginning of the year set itself a target to reduce incidents of fire outbreaks in the region by some sixty percent by the end of the year.

Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti region fire command, ADO 1 Desmond Ackah told Ultimate News the feat has been chalked because of the increased fire safety outreaches conducted by the Ashanti region fire command.

“If you compare the figures of 2016 as against figures of 2017, we have made a little over forty five percent. In terms of the extent of reduction, we are looking at a target of sixty percent by the end of the year. So if by the end of June we have done more than 45%, it means that there is still some room to be able to get to our target.”

“What has contributed to this is the intensified fire education in the various target areas like markets, schools, churches and communities,” he pointed out.

ADO 1 Ackah commended Ultimate fm for supporting its outreach activities in the region and asked that other stations deem it a responsibility to do same to further drive down the frequency of fire outbreaks in the Ashanti region.
