Fifty-year-old widow enrolls in basic school

Jumapo, Sept 23, GNA - Madam Constance Ofosu, a 50-year-old widow, has been admitted to class two at the Jumapo Anglican Basic School in the Eastern Region, to begin formal education. Madam Ofosu, who aspires to become a nurse, has four children and her last child is in class three in the same school. Speaking in an interview with GNA at Jumapo, Madam Ofosu said she had realized that with the current trend of globalization, education was the only tool to help people to contribute to society and had decided to go to school despite the challenges. Madam Ofosu said that because she is illiterate, she could not claim her husband's entitlement after his death two years ago, coupled with bureaucracies and formalities that involved reading, understanding and signing of documents. She expressed worry that some school children in the area engaged in truancy and others became pregnancy. Madam Ofosu said that her last child had threatened to stop schooling if she (mother) continued with her education because classmates of the child teased him that her mother was in class two. She asked parents to invest in the education of their children and advised the youth to take their education seriously. 23 Sept. 10
