Farmers satisfied with cocoa spaying exercise

Kukuom (B/A), Nov. 7, GNA- Cocoa Farmers in the Asunafo North and South Districts of the Brong-Ahafo Region have expressed satisfaction with the cocoa spraying exercise introduced by the government three years ago. The farmers told the GNA that they were experiencing an unusual massive yield.

At Kusikrom, near Asumura in Asunafo north district, Opanin Yaw Adjei, Regional best farmer debunked the claim that the massive yield was due to natural causes.

On the current price of DDT insecticides, which is said to be hovering around 100,000 cedis per litre, most of the farmers expressed the view that it would be appropriate for the government to consider subsidizing it.

Opanin Yaw Adjei commended the government for the free mass cocoa spraying exercise and said the exercise was yielding good results. He said reports he had received from farmers in Kusikrom indicated that the yield had in some cases either doubled or tripled. Opanin Adjei said fertilisers were fairly distributed in the area and the farmers who benefited from the Hi-Tech programme had already applied them on their farms.
