Farmers in Sakogu assisted to improve their lives

Sakogu (N/R), Aug 29, GNA - Some 845 farmers at Sakogu near Nalerigu have been given 450 bags of maize and weedicides by Partners in Rural Empowerment and Development (PARED)in collaboration with CARE International. The presentation was done at a food fair to support farming households in the nine communities.

The communities are Bongai, Wunzugtenga, Dabare, Sungnibonma No.1, Yakazea, Yapaala, Boagu, Zongiligu and Boaguri. The Food Fair, which is a third, is sponsored by the European Union (EC) and dubbed Food and Agricultural Recovery Management: Farm plus Projec= t in support of the vulnerable and farming communities in the area to recover from the floods they suffered. The previous two fairs, which sent relief through the distribution of coupons and vouchers for the farmers to buy seed and food stuff from the market, were to relieve them from shocks they suffered from the 2007-8 floods. Mr Moses Tampuri Assani, Programme Coordinator of PARED, said PARED supported the farmers with ruminants and some facilities to run their own small projects. Madam Ama Alhassan, a beneficiary from Yapaala, thanked the EC and CAR= E International for the support saying the project had helped her family to make food available all the time for the household. Mr Adam Imoro, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for East Mamprusi, said he was grateful to the EC and partners and called for more collaboration from partners to help improve on the local economy.
