Farmers in Dama Nkwanta get warehouse

An 80 metric tonne capacity warehouse for farmers to store their farm produce has been inaugurated at Dama Nkwanta in the Pru District.

Mr Ernest Abaka Biney, Project Manager of Market for Innovation Development (MIND), an affiliate of the Ecumenical Association for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (ECASARD), said the project was funded by Alliance for Grain Revelation Africa (AGRA).

Speaking to the GNA at Dama Nkwanta, he said MIND through the support from AGRA and ECASARD had initiated measures to assist farmer-based organizations with capacity building to take keen interest in the School Feeding Programme and explore ready market for their farm produce.

Mr Biney said MIND, in collaboration with ECASARD, would monitor the project until 2016 when the project would end.

He said ECASARD operates in two districts in the Brong-Ahafo Region and seven districts in the Volta Region and urged farmers in beneficiary communities to patronize the facility.

Mr Emmanuel Kwame Opoku, the Pru District Chief Executive, commended ECASARD, MIND and AGRA for the warehouse and said the Assembly was negotiating for funds to build warehouses to store farm produce.

He appealed to the people to protect the environment against indiscriminate bushfires and desist from carrying naked fires to their farms because offenders would be prosecuted.

Nana Solomon Wam, Odikro of Dama Nkwanta, appealed to ECASARD to provide potable water for the people and educate them on modern techniques in agriculture.
