Farmer suggests competition for past best national best farmers

Awutu-Mankessim, Oct 13, GNA - The 1994 second National Best Farmer, Nai Kwao Otuo V, has suggested the organisation of "Champion of Champions" competition for past national best farmer award winners to assess their performance after they had won their awards. Nai Otuo, founder of the National Best Farmers Association, said this would help the award winners avoid complacency and to ginger them to achieve higher laurels.

It would also keep reminding the award winners of the need to sustain the good image they have carved for themselves.

Nai Otuo, who is also the Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen, was addressing members of the association as part of this year's World Food Day celebrations. He suggested that the ''Champion of Champions'' competition should be organised alongside the existing national farmers day celebrations but it must not attract bigger prizes.

Nai Otuo appealed to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to put in place a mechanism to monitor the activities of past award winners and also offer them regular technical advice to encourage them to produce more.
