A 68-year-old man identified as Kweku Omane was found dead after heavy rains at Effiduase in the Ashanti Region.

The body of the deceased was discovered under a bridge by a passer-by who quickly reported the matter to the Effiduase Police.

Confirming the incident to ClassFMOnline.com, Divisional Crime Officer, Effiduase Division, ASP Harold Opoku Yamoah, explained: “The police rushed to the scene after the report and found no marks of assault on the body of the deceased except a cut on the fore head.”

ASP Yamoah stated that initial investigations revealed that the farmer was fond of returning late from the farm, so his relatives were not alarmed when he had not returned from the farm as at 7pm the previous day “only to find his body in the gutter this morning (Thursday, March 23)”.

Mr Yamoah said the pathologist can confirm the actual cause of death but they “suspect that the deceased might have fallen into the gutter and got hurt and because he could not get back up, he was stuck there. Last night there was a heavy downpour around 1am so the runoff might have pushed him further to the culvert where he was found.”

The body has been deposited at the Effiduase Government Hospital awaiting autopsy as investigations by the police continues.
