Fanteakwa promise continuous support for donor projects

Begoro (E/R), March 15, GNA - The Fanteakwa District Assembly would continue to support donor projects when such donors fold up, the Chairman of the Social Services Sub-Committee of the Assembly, Mr William Agyarkwa said.

He gave the assurance at the end of a day's review meeting on educational programmes of Government Accountability Improved Trust (GAIT II) at Begoro.

The GAIT II project is a USAID project which aims at helping improve the educational standards of schools. He assured Stakeholders that the assembly would enact bye-laws to insure discipline in school children.

The Fanteakwa District Director of Education, Ms Mary Animwah bemoaned low enrolment in some schools in the district. She said it was a waste of government resources when a teacher is posted to teach a class of between five and ten pupils while the counterpart in another school teaches a class of over 40 pupils. Ms Animwah said the Directorate was considering closing down low enrolled schools if School Management Committees/Parent Teachers Associations did not do anything to improve on the situation. The GAIT II project winds up at the end of July this year in the district.
