False Fire alarmists can face prosecution

Agona Nyakrom(C/R), March 22, GNA - The Central

Regional Fire Service Commander, Mr Ankonam Kwesi

Quayson, has cautioned people who raise false fire alarms

that they would face prosecution when caught. He said it was unfortunate that some personnel of the

National Fire Service receive anonymous distress calls from

the public about fire outbreaks which unfortunately turned

out to be untrue, after wasting time and money to locate the

place. Mr Quayson said this at the passing out of a 115-

member fire volunteer squad at Agona Nyakrom in the

Agona West Municipality. He expressed the hope that the training of the volunteers

would reduce the false alarms and also help in the

prevention of fire outbreaks at the markets, shops, stores

and houses in the Municipality. Mr Quayson urged the volunteers to work and also

exhibit a high sense of discipline and respect to the officers

and chiefs, assembly members and others to enhance their

work. Nana Okofo Katakyi Nyarko Eku X, Omanhene of

Nyakrom Traditional Area, urged farmers in the area to

contact the volunteers before clearing and burning their

farms. He said the country lost huge sums of money as a result

of fire outbreaks nation wide and urged the volunteers to

help prevent and protect property and life.
