Ex-Council workers threaten legal action

Nkawie (Ash), Nov. 20, GNA - Twenty-nine former area council staff of the Atwima District Assembly have threatened to take legal action against the Assembly if their salaries covering October 1999 to date, is not paid to them with interest within 30 days.

A notice of intent filed by Dennis Adjei Legal Consult, on behalf of the aggrieved persons, said the workers would also claim damages for wrongful suspension of their appointments on June 25, 2001.

They will also seek a declaration that the letter purporting to suspend their appointment as area council staff is void and has no basis in law.

The solicitors said the notice was being given in consonance with the Local Government Act, which makes it mandatory for any person desiring or intending to issue a writ of summons against any district assembly to give 30 days notice.

The notice said the former staff of the area council will therefore institute an action against the district assembly after one month, effective December 18, 2003 if they did not get any response.
