Ex-Assemblyman pays NHIS premium for 150 people

A former Assemblyman for the Aprampramu Electoral Area of Osenase in the West Akim Municipality, Mr. Joseph Kwaku Ayeh, has paid the National Health Insurance premium for 150 children and the aged in his electoral area.

One-hundred-and- thirty children under 18 and 20 men and women over 70 had their premiums paid. Mr. Ayeh who is a revenue officer at the Municipal Assembly said he was catering for two aged people and the last of them died three years ago.

He therefore saved the money which he would have used to care for the two dead elderly people to pay for the premiums for the 150 people.

Mr. Ayeh promised to use his one month salary annually to help children to access free health care.

Asked what motivated him to help the vulnerable in society, Mr. Ayeh said, before the National Health Insurance Scheme came into being, on visits to the hospitals in the Municipality, he came across people who could not pay their hospital bills and he assisted whenever possible.

He therefore decided to help children and the aged in his electoral area by paying their premiums. The aged and parents of the children who benefited from the payment of the premiums were full of praise for the former assemblyman.
