Establishment of festival for Upper West Region advocated

Fielmon, UWR, Jan. 15, GNA - Naa Mwin-Ireme Dangnikuu II, chief of Fielmon in the Sissala West District, has advocated the establishment of a festival for the people of Upper West Region, to unite them and market their cultural.

He called on the chiefs, political authorities and other stakeholders to discuss the possibility of establishing the festival. Naa Dangnikuu made these suggestions during the celebration of the annual "Kukur Bagr" festival of the chiefs and people of Fielmon Traditional Area, at Fielmon.

He asked the chiefs to catalogue cultural practices of the region to keep the youth abreast with the traditions, beliefs and practices of area. Naa Dangnikuu expressed worry that cattle belonging Fulani herdsmen were destroying crops and the environment and appealed to government to address the issue.

He appealed to government to repair roads in the area and extend electricity to the communities to facilitate socio-economic activities. Naa Dangnikuu appealed to the Assembly and other development partners to provide the community with more toilets and mechanized borehole to improve the living conditions of the people. He called on the authorities to establishment an Information and Communication Technology Centre, construct a Senior High Secondary/Technical School for the area and the establishment of a Basic Education Certificate Examination Centre to prevent candidates from traveling all the way to Gwollu to take their examinations. The festival is a period for the people to take stock of their achievements and failures and thank God for His blessing and unite for development.
