Establish a DVLA office in Yendi - Yendi GPRTU

The members of the Yendi Branch of Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU)of TUC have appealed for the establishment of a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office in Yendi.

Mr Abdul-Majeed Hamidu Chando, the Yendi Branch Secretary of the GPRTU, made the appeal during the first quarterly meeting of the Union at Yendi.

He said a DVLA Office established in the town would also serve several areas including Zabzugu, Saboba, Tatale, Gushegu, Cheriponi, Nanumba North, Kpandai, Nanumba south, and Mion Districts.

Mr Chando said with such an office in the area, vehicular owners would find it easy to license their machines rather than travel all the way to Tamale for their licenses and road worthiness certificates.

He said this would also eliminate the middlemen from interfering in the work of DVLA Officers.

Mr Chando said many vehicle owners in the area felt that travelling to Tamale to license just one motorbike and a vehicle was a waste of resources hence many did not register their vehicles.

Such an office established in the area, he said, would help DVLA to generate a lot of revenue from transport owners within the eastern corridor.
