Environmental Health Division organises workshop for food sellers

New Edubiase (Ash), Feb. 24, GNA - About 160 cooked food sellers and chop bar operators in the Adansi East district of Ashanti on Tuesday, attended a day's workshop on environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene.

They were conducted on the importance of keeping the surroundings where they prepare and sell their food hygienically clean. The cooked food sellers and chop bar operators also discussed personal hygiene which involved cutting of their finger nails, keeping their hair clean, wearing clean clothes to sell their food and the constant washing of their hands with soap.

The workshop was organised by the Environmental Health Division of the Adansi East district assembly to sensitise the cooked food sellers and chop bar operators on the importance of selling under very clean and hygienic environment.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr Gorasin Bado Seidu, the District Environmental Health Officer told the participants that since their works involve the health of people, there were the need for them to be medically examined before they sell to the public.

This, he said, will ensure that they were completely healthy or free from any contagious disease and therefore warned that anyone who refused to have a medical check up before selling food to the public will be prosecuted.

Mr Seidu advised the food sellers and chop bar operators not to prepare their food with rotten tomatoes and vegetables, which they can buy cheaper but prepare food with healthy tomatoes and vegetables and desist from adulterating their soup.
