Enskin a peacemaker as paramount chief – Nana Addo tells Navrongo kingmakers

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged elders of the Navrongo traditional area to enskin someone who is a peacemaker to succeed the late paramount chief Pe Asagpaare I, Dr. A.B.A Adda.

Nana Akufo-Addo made the call when he joined thousands of mourners in Navrongo in the Upper East Region for the final funeral rites of the late paramount chief.

Pe Asagpaare I, known in private life as Dr. Augustine Atudeku Balinia Adda died on September 13, 2015 having reigned for close to 43 years.

The Navrongo traditional area is expected to select and enskin a new paramount chief in second week of July 2018 in accordance with their tradition.

President Akufo-Addo described the late chief a remarkable Ghanaian who ensured the reputation of the Kassena Nankana area was protected, adding men like him should be remembered by those still alive.

“The late chief brought peace and stability to his area and I’m urging the elders to choose a successor; somebody who will also be a peacemaker and a developer of the area” he added.

The funeral rites was attended by thousands of mourners including the chiefs in the Navrongo traditional area and some paramount chiefs in the region.

It was characterised by a rich display of culture by the various cultural troops including several war dancers who depicted the personality of the late paramount chief.

A delegation from Asantehene, Otumfou Osei Tutu II led by Sumankwa Hene III Baffour Asaore Kogyewose presented some cola nuts, schnapps and an undisclosed amount of money to the family in line with custom.

The delegation also displayed rich culture of the Asante kingdom in solidarity with the people of Navrongo traditional area.

Head of the family of the late chief, William Adda, in his welcome address thanked the president for accepting their invitation and appreciated all and sundry for their various contributions towards the funeral.

Known in private life as Dr. Augustine Atudeku Balinia Adda, the late chief was enskinned on July 15, 1972 within the Kasena-Nankana traditional area.

He was born on December 4, 1936 to Prince Arthur-Balinia Adda and Madam Jemima Amonzem as the firstborn to his parents.

The late Navro-pio Dr. A.B.A Adda was the 15th Chief of Navrongo Traditional Area and was a direct descendant of Butu, the first Prince and Warrior who founded “Navoro” in the mid-XVIIth century.
