Electricity for the elated people of Agyemankrom

Agyemankrom (B/A), May 20, GNA - For seeing the dream of illuminating their streets and homes become a reality, the chiefs and people of Agyemankrom in Dormaa Municipality on Wednesday thronged the historic commissioning of a one=96phase electricity project in the town.

The long awaited project was commissioned by Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo,Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, as part of his three-day familiarization tour of the municipality.

He said the provision of the facility, being one of several social interventions planned for the community, would initially cover the streets in the town and latter an electrical contractor would be engaged to wire private homes.

At another durbar held by the chief and people at Antwirifo, the people said lack of electricity had forced some teachers to leave town.

The teachers could not understand why the community was not hooked on to the national grid in spite of the fact that electricity poles had been erected in the town about 15 years ago.

The chiefs appealed for better roads, especially from Antwirifo to link the municipal capital, Dormaa Ahenkro, as drivers plying the road charged exorbitant fares because of its poor nature.

The community also needs a mechanical borehole, a KVIP, a Senior High School and a good health facility.

They maintained the people cultivated both cocoa and food crops and appealed to the government for a gari processing factory to save cassava farmers from the scourge of post-harvest loses and provide employment for women in the area.

Mr. Vincent Oppong Asamoah,Dormaa Municipal Chief Executive, acknowledged that people in the area really lagged behind in the provision of some basic amenities but asked them to exercise restraint.

The Regional Minister promised 93something better" would be done about their requests.

At Nkrankwanta, he inspected some on-going GETFUND projects for the local senior high school, whose management complained of lack of a kitchen, laboratory, only one borehole and bad lighting system, all of which impeded teaching and learning.

Mr. Nyamekye Marfo advised the students not to be discouraged by the conditions at the school but to make the best of it.

The MCE said the Municipal Assembly had been supplied with electricity meters and the school would be a beneficiary.
