Electrician steals cables belonging to ECG

Koforidua, April 28, GNA - Samuel Abyssinia, a 28-year-old electrician, has appeared before the Koforidua Circuit Court, charged with stealing a quantity of electrical cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Assistant Superintended of Police (ASP) Theophilus Nyandu, told the court presided over by Mr Robert Adjei Djan that on February sixth, at about 0200 hours, the barking of dogs drew the attention of some people of Asokore Kuma, a suburb of Koforidua to the accused, perched on top of an electric pole in front of Mr Hackman Owusu Agyemang's residence. He said when the people shouted, the accused jumped down and took to his heels but the people were able to arrest him and found some electrical cables on him.

ASP Nyandu said because of the activities of Abyssinia, the whole area was plunged into darkness that day.

The accused admitted the offence and was remanded in prison custody to reappear on May 16.
