Member of Parliament for Ejura Sekyeredumasi constituency, Mohammed Bawa Braimah, has described the town's abattoir as a "bad and sad" situation which poses health risk to the residents.

The abattoir has been in such a deplorable state for more than two years now and butchers continue to serve meat there to town folks.

The sanitary condition there is questionable as butchers ignore basic health precautions.

According to them, there are no other better options for them.

Many residents have raised concerns about the poor state of the slaughter house in the past but things still remain same.

It is unclear what could make authorities to turn deaf ears to the butchers plea of renovating the place after couple of them have to come to know situation there.

But today, the member of parliament for the area visited the site for the first in many months and considered it as "shameful" and regrettable for his people.

Bawa Braimah says he cannot look on while his constituents continue to use such a poor and stench slaughter house and that, it behoves on him to take steps to fix the place.

"We must do something immediately about the state of the place. This is not the best for the people." He said.

At the time of filing this report, the MP has already scheduled a meeting with the town engineer to begin securing good hygienic place for the butchers.

Asked when the new place would be available for the butchers, he says, "It should not take much time. This isn't something we don't need to sit aloof."
