Eighteen hard working personalities honoured in Winneba

Winneba (C/R), Dec 26, GNA- The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly on Monday during its end of year party honoured 18 people for their contribution towards the development of thee district The personalities who received the awards include assembly members and government officials and were presented with items including colour Television sets, Wax Prints, Ghetto Blasters, bicycles, standing fans and electric irons.

The Graduate Students Association of the University of Education, Winneba was presented with a computer and its accessories. The District Chief Executive for the Area, Mr. Solomon Abam Quaye in his address said the Assembly was able collect 1,54,576 of the estimated 1.4 billion cedis revenue targeted by the Assembly as at July ending.

He called for hard work and dedicated service by Assembly members and staff of government institutions in the district to increase productivity.

The DEC expressed concern about the writing of unnecessary letters about some personalities in high positions in the district and said this would not help to develop the area but rather retrogress its development.

He said with the re-introduction of the "Samansama" (Sanitation inspectors) system, the Assembly has engaged the service of 25 workers to start working in Winneba, adding that the programme would later be extended to other parts of the district. The Member of Parliament for Awutu/Senya, Mr. Opei Abbey, reminded the Assembly members of the non-partisan nature of the Assembly and urged them to put their political affiliation aside when they attend meetings.

Neenyi Ghartey VII, Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area, who chaired the function commended members of the District Assembly and heads of Department for their contribution towards the development of the district and urged them to maintain the spirit. 26 Dec 06
