A group of concern citizen of Effutu have made an appeal to President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to help curb the rampant crime wave occurring in the Effutu Municipality and surrounding towns.

This is because within three months increasing number of killings and attacks have been recorded in the municipality and its surrounding towns and villages, endangering the peace, security and stability enjoyed in the area.

This was contained in a petition read at a press briefing, by Lawyer Victor Yankson, a spokesman for the petitioners at Winneba.

Lawyer Yankson said three month ago someone was murdered at Dayasaw, a suburb of Winneba, while not too long a go another person was attacked and killed at Gomoa Pomadze near Winneba Junction.

“About a couple of weeks ago, one Mr Bortsie properly known as “Shine” was also attacked and sustained several cutlass wounds which led to his admission at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba”.

The spokesperson said apart from the attacks on indigenous of Effutuman, several reports of attacks of civil servants, lecturers and students of the University of Education and the College of Nursing in Winneba have been also recorded.

We are, however, amazed that it is alleged that there are high profile people who are shielding suspects involved in such cases, he said.

He said although some suspects were arrested in connection with the alleged murder at Dayasaw but none of them have been prosecuted, added that, investigations they conducted indicate that all the arrested criminals have been released on police bail.

Lawyer Yankson said after the attacks of Mr Bortsie, two of his attackers were arrested but were later released by the police without arraigning them before the court of justice to decide if such people should be granted bail or not.

“We don’t mean to teach the police their job, but what we mean is that those who have been arrested in connection with the attacks should be sent to court for prosecution”.

They expressed the hope that His Excellency the President would consider their plea and ensure that investigatory team would be brought into the matter.
