Edikanfo Foundation donates wheel chairs to disabled

Kumasi, Jan. 28, GNA - The Edikanfo Progressive Foundation (EPF), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), in collaboration with the Free Wheel Chair Mission based in Virginia in the United States, on Saturday donated 15 wheel chairs to the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Society of the Physically-Challenged.

The gesture was to complement government's efforts to enhance the capacity of the marginalized and the vulnerable in the society and also emulate Christ who loves the sick and disabled, the group said. Miss Bernice Dapaah, Programmes Manager, who presented the wheelchairs said the group which is ten years old and had three branches in Ashanti, Greater Accra and Northern regions had been supporting target groups in the form of advocacy education, development projects and training through the mobilization of resources. Miss Dapaah hinted that plans were afoot to set up a special school for the physically-challenged in Kumasi, adding that individuals who are in need of the chairs should contact them.

Mr Abdul- Aziz Mohammed, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Society of Physically Disabled, said the chairs would facilitate the movement of members especially school children in the deprived areas who commute long distances to school.

He called on the government to design modules for the disabled members under the National Youth Employment Programme. 28 Jan 08
