Construction works on the Eastern corridors will be completed by next year, Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has said.

The major road links the southern part of the country to the Northern and Upper East Regions, as well as some neighbouring countries.

Mr Fuseini, who was speaking in an interview on Citi FM on Monday December 21, 2015, revealed that it was one of the major projects of the Mahama administration, and provisions are being made for its successful execution next year.

“We have planned to finish and substantially complete the Eastern Corridor roads by next year. There is indication that we might get resources next year and do the road. By next year, October you will see a substantial improvement on the road,” he stated.

Mr Fuseini entreated residents along the stretch of the road to exercise patience, as they work to complete the road, which is supposed to ease movement from Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, and the Northern part of the country.

“I’ll crave the indulgence of those living within the corridor, the Eastern corridor spine, to bear with us, as we aim to finish construction of the road,” he added.

The completion of the project will facilitate socio-economic development and integration within the West Africa sub-region.

The Eastern Corridor road project commenced about four years ago, but funding has been a major challenge that has affected its execution.
