Eastern Region records less road accidents

The Eastern Region recoded a total of 573 accident cases for the first half of this year, as against 766 recorded for the same period last year, indicating a 25 per cent reduction.

A total of 740 vehicles were involved in the accidents as against 1,063 during the same period last year and the number of fatal accidents recorded was 94 as against 114 last year.

Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Larbi, the Eastern Regional Commander, Motor Traffic and Transport Division of the Ghana Police Service (MTTD), disclosed the statistics to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview.

He gave the number of pedestrians knock downs as 130 as against 173 last year, and that, 116 persons died as a result of the accidents this year, as compared to 173 last year.

Chief Supt Larbi said the number of injured persons for the first part of the year was 1,001, whilst 1,247 persons got injured the same period last year.

He called on drivers to do their best on the road to ensure that the lives of people were protected since every life was precious and important for the country’s development.
