East Gonja Assembly to build police post

Salaga, (N/R) Nov 10, GNA - The East Gonja District Assembly is set to build a police post at Kpalbi to help curb the incidence of armed robbery on the Salaga-Tamale road. Mr. Alhassan Mumuni, District Chief Executive (DCE) of East Gonja, announced this when he donated a computer and its accessories valued at GHC 1,700 to the district police command on behalf of the district assembly in Salaga on Wednesday. He said the rampant armed robbery cases reported along the road had kept the travelling public in fear, adding that, this state of insecurity could not be allowed to continue.

He commended the police for their efforts in combating crime, especially armed robbery and cattle rustling, in the area despite the challenges they were facing and said that the assembly also had plans to put up a barracks for them to ease their accommodation problem. Mr. Mumuni said the donation of the computer was in response to a request made by their commander and expressed the hope that the computer would assist them to perform their duties more efficiently. The DCE also donated some relief items from the district NADMO office to Constable David Azongo whose belongings got burnt in a recent fire outbreak in his room. He assured the police that the assembly was ever prepared to help them work effectively in keeping the peace in the district and urged them not to hesitate to approach the assembly with any problem facing them in the discharge of their duties. Mr. Mumuni called on the police officers to interact freely with the people to let them feel that the police are their friends, saying that, this gesture would encourage the people to volunteer information to them. ASP Amanning Koranteng expressed gratitude to the assembly for the kind gesture and said that upon completion the police post would be put to good use. He expressed regret that the two police posts at Lonto and Abrumase in the district were manned by low ranking officers, which he said did not augur well for the service.
