Carouge Kwame Mensah, CEO of the C.K Mensah Foundation, has emphasised the critical importance of early detection in managing breast cancer and the overall value of proactive health check-ups.
According to him, waiting for things to get worse before rushing to a facility for treatment is not always the best.
Adding that knowing your health status regarding breast cancer, kidney, pressure, liver etc helps people to live a meaningful life.
He has therefore admonished all persons to always prioritize their health by grabbing opportunities such as health screening and other health checkups.
He said this during a free health screening event organized by the C.K Mensah Foundation at Abuakwa in the Ashanti region.
The initiative, according to him, aimed to promote preventative healthcare and improve access to essential medical services for residents of the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency.
Speaking in an interview following the event, Mensah stated, “We believe that prevention is always better than cure. While the rate of breast cancer might not be exceptionally high in Ghana, it is crucial that our women prioritize regular screenings to detect any potential issues early on. We want to ensure that every woman, every mother, every lady in our community has access to the care they need."
The screenings, which covered a range of health concerns including breast cancer check-ups, blood pressure monitoring, and eye examinations, saw hundreds of community members take advantage of the opportunity to receive free medical assessments and consultations.
Mensah also highlighted the Foundation’s dedication to removing barriers to healthcare access.
“This screening is entirely free because we believe that healthcare is a basic human right. It doesn’t require an abundance of resources to make a difference in someone’s life. A simple gesture of support and access to essential health information can be transformative."
He further explained that the Foundation’s mission extended beyond financial resources, emphasising that the spirit of humanitarianism and empathy are primary factors that motivates the foundation to provide help to the less privileged.
He also mentioned some other initiatives that the foundation undertakes which includes donation and partnerships in other locations of Ghana.
Meanwhile, hundreds of individuals, predominantly females, participated in the exercise where issues such as breast, blood pressure among others were examined.
Most of them who spoke to the media expressed joy for knowing their status on the aforementioned sicknesses.
The beneficiaries also commended Courage Kwame Mensah and his team for organizing such a wonderful free exercise for them and urged everyone to grab the opportunity.
“I thank C.K Mensah and his team for this great offer. They checked my pressure, breast, and many other things for free. It's not painful or comes with any fear. I'm urging everyone to grab this opportunity,” a woman told this reporter.
Another attendee who gave her name as Ante Grace said, "I am very happy that I have finally known my status through this free medical screening. They told me I have no problem and advised me on how to live well. Apart from the medical check-ups, they also gave everyone packs of bottled water, wrappers for traders, etc."
Apart from the free health screening, most of the beneficiaries disclosed that they were gifted items such as packs of bottled water, wrappers, scarfs etc.
