Drivers warned not to collude with tax dodgers

Amoma (B/A), Oct. 29, GNA- Mr Opoku Donyina, Chairman of Amoma Area Council of Kintampo District Assembly in Brong-Ahafo has warned that any driver in the area arrested for assisting traders to dodge payment of taxes on their goods would be prosecuted.

Addressing members of the council at a meeting at Amoma in Brong Ahafo, the Council chairman expressed concern about the practice by some traders to run away with their goods without paying taxes on them. He also deplored the attitude of some drivers who collude with traders to dodge the payment of taxes.

Mr Donyina called on unit committees to assist revenue collectors in their areas to ensure that all the people honoured their tax obligations to enable the Assembly to generate enough revenue for development projects.

The Kintampo District Assembly has resolved to provide 50 percent of revenue collected in every community in support of on-going development programmes initiated in the area.

Mr Donyina explained that the sharing of revenue equally, would promote the development of the communities since the leaders would ensure that the people paid their basic rates and other taxes. He announced that since the exercise started in May this year, the Amoma Area Council had mobilized more than 10 million cedis to support projects.

The council has been paying three core staff members serving with it and has also been able to pay for the rent advance for office accommodation, the area council chairman said.

Mr Donyina disclosed that the council has plans to provide slabs for the butchers stall at Jema market and to improve its existing structures to promote business activities.
