Drivers embark on training course

Kumasi, Sept 21, GNA - The Ashanti Regional branch of the Drivers Welfare Union of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has begun a monthly training course for its members on defensive driving and comportment.

Mr Sumaila Boachie, Chairman of the Union, told the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Wednesday, that the training programme, which is free, was to equip the drivers with modern defensive driving skills and techniques.

It would also enable them to cope with the influx of tourists and other guests expected in the country next year during the golden jubilee anniversary celebration and the Cup of African Nations. He said drivers would play a crucial role in all the events and beyond, thus there was the need to equip them to discharge their duties efficiently to prevent accidents during the periods. Mr Boachie, who is also the Chairman of the Kumasi-Takoradi-Elubo branch of the GPRTU, advised drivers to always appear neat, respect passengers and pedestrians and maintain their vehicles at regular intervals.
