Drinking bars banned in all lorry stations

Anyinam (E/R) Oct 29, GNA- The National Road Safety Committee (NRSC) has directed that drinking bars should be removed from all GPRTU and Co-operative Transport Union stations in the Eastern Region.

In addition, the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) is to revoke the operating licence of all drinking bars at lorry stations to ensure the safety of passengers during the Christmas season.

The MTTU has also introduced an instrument, which would be used to check the speed of vehicles on the Kyebi and Anyinam highways as a way of ensuring accident-free Christmas.

This was announced by the Eastern Regional Commander of the MTTU, Mr James Amoah at a day's seminar organized by the Regional Road Safety Committee for GPRTU drivers at Anyinam in the Eastern Region.

The Regional MTTU Commander said a research has shown that most of the accidents that occur on the Accra-Anyinam-Kumasi road are due to over-speeding and unnecessary overtaking.

Mr Amoah who is also the secretary of the Regional Road Safety Committee, expressed concern about the number of fatal accidents on the Anyinam-Kumasi road.
