Dr Kwame Sallah Pooh Pooh Kuberkro Fiasco Demo

A Real Estate Developer, Dr Seth Kwame Sallah has mocked a fiasco demonstration by some residents of Kuberkro in Atadeka, a suburb of the Kpone Katamanso District in protest over what they claimed was a looting of land belonging to them by the people of Kpone-Appolonia.

The Chief Executive officer of Setho Classic Group of Companies, who is a legitimate owner of parcel of land that fall within the said land said, though, the demonstration was a useless one, it served as a keep fit exercise for the few people who took part in it.

"Yes, I think it is a very useless demonstration and deserves no attention from anybody. Their reason of organising such a failed demonstration is nothing more than a distraction to business activities in the area", he said after the failed demonstration.

The young businessman in describing the demonstration as a wasteful sponsored one by people who are very desperate in grasping the land though they know too well that the land does not belong them therefore the demonstrators to head to the law courts if they think they genuinely have a reasonable case.

"If they have a case and reasonable documents to prove that they are the legal owners of the land which they are demonstrating for, why waste time on the road instead of heading to the law courts where matters of such nature are determined by competent judges? It's a surprise to me that people will want to waste their time on unnecessary things but every citizen in this country has a constitutional right to demonstrate and we as law abiding ones will always respect such", he continued.

Few residents of Kuberkro on last Tuesday hit the streets of the area to protest over what they claim was an illegal seizure of their land by the people of Kpone-Appolonia and accused the Regional Minister who doubles as MP of the area, Hon Nii Laryea Afortey-Agbo of being partial.

He said the demonstration does not in any way mount pressure on him or the Kpone-Appolonia people to leave what is rightfully theirs saying "it is only the court that is capable of determining who is the owner of a property after carefully examining documents, so I don't know what they are doing on the streets", he noted

He, however, unequivocally called on the Ghana police service especially the police administration in the Tema Region to be up in arms against the criminal activities of land guards in the country to enable rightful owners of land to be safe and develop more houses to bright the housing deficit currently facing the country.

"I will fully support whatever strategy the police will employ to stop these inhuman activities on innocent persons. Enough is enough for the land guards menace in the country. It is collapsing the real estate industry", he remarked.

He furthered that it was shameful and worrying that after all these years, the Ghana Police Service and other state security agencies are watching helplessly as these criminals, parading themselves as land guards continue to mete out their brutalities on the innocent citizens over land disputes.

"In principle, myself and my company, Setho Classic Group of Companies, is in full support on the call by well meaning Ghanaians for the police to act decisively and get rid of these wicked individuals called land guards", he underscored.

''Even when developers have title to the land, it becomes increasingly difficult to build, as a result of the menace of land guards, who not only intimidate developers but also attack them with machetes, guns and other offensive weapons.

Many people who have acquired pieces of land through their sweat have had to abandon them because of threats to their lives'', the CEO of Setho Classic Engineering Company Limited furthered almost in tears.

Mr Sallah said armed the land guards do not only use those arms to terrorise land owners and developers but also use same guns at night to undertake robbery and other violent criminal activities adding that is he believe that we must all stand up and support the police administration to fight against these miscreants in our society.

He also challenged chiefs and other custodians of land to desist from the multiple sale of land and adhere strictly to the laws of the land. He urges the Lands Commission and other land regulatory bodies sit up to do the right thing, as, more often than not, they provide the fertile ground for the land guard menace to thrive.
