Guan Bay Herbal & Homeopathic Clinic, in collaboration with Global Friends of Nature, a non-profit organisation, has donated educational materials to resource Donyina RC Basic School in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
This marks the 23rd donation made by the two organisations since 2018 to promote educational development in rural communities, particularly within the Ashanti Region.
During their 22nd donation, 15 brand-new sewing machines were presented to 15 female apprentices selected from different parts of the Ejisu Municipality at a ceremony held in Donyina.
The latest donation, valued at GH¢10,000, was led by the President of Global Friends of Nature and CEO of Guan Bay Herbal & Homeopathic Clinic, Shadrack Owusu Marfo, popularly known as Dr Nana Guan Bay.
He was joined by his family and other members of the organisation, including Stephen Oduro (Amansan Wɔfa), Theresah Adoma, Thellies Owusu, Elijah Owusu Nketiah (Odifoɔ), and Robert Bentil, communications consultant.
The team was accompanied by traditional leaders of Donyina led by the Nifahene, Nana Amo Piesie; the Assembly Member of the Donyina Electoral Area, Emmanuel Akosa; and unit committee members.
The donation included:
5 desktop computers to enhance the teaching and learning of ICT.
350 exercise books and 70 pens, designated for pupils who placed between 1st and 5th positions in the school’s promotion exams, to motivate academic excellence.

Promoting inclusive and quality education
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Dr Nana Guan Bay explained that both the clinic and Global Friends of Nature are committed to resourcing basic schools in rural areas where educational materials are scarce.
He stressed that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of education development, hence their contribution serves as a complement to national efforts.
Dr Guan Bay emphasised the importance of inclusive and quality education, citing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) which aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all,” especially schoolchildren in rural Ghana.
He expressed gratitude to his family, clinic staff, members of Global Friends of Nature, the Akan TV crew, and all others who supported the initiative. He urged school authorities to take proper care of the donated items.
The headteacher, Frank Addai, and the PTA chairman, Peter Ampofo, who received the items on behalf of the school, thanked the organisations for their support and appealed for continued assistance as the school works to strengthen partnerships with private donors.

Future support for SHS students
Dr Nana Guan Bay also announced that the clinic plans to support any BECE candidate from Donyina RC Basic School who obtains a single-digit aggregate as they advance to senior high school.
