Don't maximise profits to the detriment of pupils- Educationist

Kumasi, Oct 25, GNA- Mrs Gladys Kwapong, the Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Education, has cautioned school authorities not to think only of maximising profits to be detriment of pupils.

She therefore called on School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to prevail upon school authorities to ensure that their policies were always in the best interest of the children.

Mrs Kwapong was inaugurating a 95 million-cedis modern kitchen built by the SMC and PTA of the State Experimental School in Kumasi on Friday.

She stressed that good hygienic conditions and academic excellence should supersede all other considerations in the running of schools and regretted that some schools operated under conditions, which were not suitable for academic pursuits.

Mrs Kwapong commended the SMC and PTA for coming to the aid of the school and hoped the gesture will go a long way to help the school in its academic work.

Mr Akwasi Afranie, the SMC chairman, assured the school authorities that the committee was working seriously towards providing an ultra-modern library for the pupils.
