Don't interfere with work of GES - Catholic teachers charge politicians

An appeal has been made to politicians to allow the Ghana Education Service (GES) to work without interference to advance the delivery of quality education in the country.

The leadership of the Association of Catholic Teachers (ACT), Kumasi Province, in a goodwill message to Ghanaians, noted that the frequent interference of politicians in the activities of GES was one of the major setbacks in the Service, and urged them to stop for the sake of delivery of quality education in Ghana.

The message signed by Bismark Antwi Donkor, Secretary; Williams Boakye-Baafi, Coordinator; and Eric Kyei, Chairman of ACT, urged the speedy finalisation of the educational partnership agreement between the religious bodies and the Government in 2015.

The partnership agreement seeks to address the misunderstanding between the directors of education and authorities of the religious bodies in areas of postings, transfers, supervision and monitoring of teachers and schools.

The statement entreated GES officials to show respect to teachers, noting that showing respect to workers was an effective means of motivating them to give off their best.

The message, which affirmed the readiness of Catholic Teachers to step-up their efforts this year, encouraged teachers to be more committed and dedicated to the discharging their duties to improve upon standards.

The ACT, according to the statement, also pledged to work hand-in-hand with the Catholic Bishops, Association of Catholic Heads of Higher Institutions (ACHHI), Regional and Local Managers of Catholic Schools and other collaborators to ensure better and improved standards of education delivery in the country.
