Don't hide under democracy to malign and insult - Chief

Agona Swedru(C/R), May 20, GNA - The Swedruhene, Nana Aseidu Kobina Botwe II, has cautioned supporters and politicians not to use the freedom of speech in this democratic dispensation to insult and malign high profile personalities. He said the government of the people for people and by the people should be used to build strong social, economic, cultural and political structures for the country.

Nana Botwe made this known when Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, paid a courtesy call on him at Agona Swedru. The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce himself to the chief and to thank the Swedruman Council of Chiefs for their support for his nomination as MCE for the Municipality. Nana Botwe expressed regret that some youth in the political parties are showing disrespect towards the leaders in the society. He said the 93beauty of the democracy is to provide the needed changein the lives of the ordinary people on the streets not to insult the leaders of the society".

The Swedruhene said Ghanaians voted NDC to power to bring peace, development, stability and harmony to them. Nana Botwe appealed to the MCE to help solve the problems facing the Agona West area. The Swedruhene called on the supporters of the political parties to bury their political differences to enable the new MCE perform his duties and help solve the problems confronting the Municipality. He said the chiefs would continue to give their support to him to accomplish his objectives. Mr Tetteh said chiefs are important stakeholders in the democratic dispensation and also play important roles in the administration of the District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies.
