Domestic Violence Secretariat commends Tigo

Ms Dela Sowah, Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has commended Telecom operator, Tigo for providing internet connection for the Domestic Violence Secretariat of the Ministry.

Ms Sowah, who paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tigo in Accra, explained that about a year ago, Tigo responded to a request by the Ministry and supported it with modems, handsets, a router and monthly airtime for a year to digitally connect and empower the Secretariat to engage with various stakeholders.

“Since Tigo’s support we are able to interact with our stakeholders by making and receiving calls and accessing the internet. We communicate regularly with our staff across the country and beyond,” she said.

Accompanied by officials of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Ms Sowah presented a citation to the CEO of Tigo which in part read “…Among others, the provision of voice and data services has made it possible for us to reach over 1000 women and youth with useful information and resources on how to keep safe, prevent violence or seek redress…”.

Roshi Motman, CEO of Tigo Ghana, gave the assurance that the telecom operator would increase its support to the Secretariat.

“I am delighted to hear from the Ministry that we have empowered them to stay confidently connected, and as a digital lifestyle brand, we truly believe in the enormous benefits of the digital age and the Ministry plays an essential role in ensuring social protection and inclusion particularly for vulnerable groups: they need our support” she said.
