Divorces in Cape Coast caused by irresponsible parenthood

Cape Coast Jan. 28, GNA- A senior executive officer of the Marriage and Divorce Registry at the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly, on Monday said 99 per cent of divorce cases in Cape Coast were caused by the refusal of fathers to take care of their children.

Mr. Edward Steele-Dadzie in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Cape Coast, said most of the men engaged in extramarital activities and shirked their parental responsibilities.

He said some of the marital cases ended at the court when the registry could not find amicable solutions them adding that a total of 432 marriages and 13 divorces were recorded in the city last year. Mr Steele-Dadzie said the decrease in divorce cases in the Municipality was due to the holding of counseling sections by the officials of the Registry and a solicitor for troubled married couples. He said a study by the Registry indicated that the increase in marriages in the Municipality had contributed to the decrease in prostitution.
