The newly installed Divisional Chief of Asesewa in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region, Nene Ofei Bosso, has called on the youth of the community to engage in agricultural activities to curb the rising unemployment in the area.
According to the chief, who also serves as the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health (MOH), his personal experience as an ardent farmer has motivated him to encourage unemployed youth to venture into farming.
He believes this initiative is a step in the right direction.
Speaking during his installation ceremony at Asesewa on January 24, 2025, Nene Ofei Bosso also emphasized the need for cooperation, collaboration, and support from the community to develop the agricultural sector for the betterment of all.
“I want to thank all my community members and call on their support to help us build a better community.
“As a farmer myself, I urge unemployed youth to venture into agriculture so that we can mitigate the rising rate of unemployment in our community.
“Asesewa will see a facelift, and together, we will create a better community,” he said.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency Bismark Tetteh Nyarko spoke at the event.
The MP highlighted the importance of supporting Nene Ofei Bosso in his new role and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between the chief, the MP, and the District Chief Executive (DCE) to drive the development of the region.
“For over a hundred years, Asesewa has been recognized as a division, and today we are celebrating the installation of the Divisional Chief. The paramount chief has installed Nene Ofei Bosso, and we are here to honor this important occasion.
“I came to deliver a goodwill message and to assure him that we will support him to succeed as a chief. As a chief, he will need a Member of Parliament and the District Chief Executive’s support. Currently, we don’t have a DCE, but we are waiting for President Mahama and the party hierarchy to nominate someone for us,” he said.
Bismark Tetteh Nyarko added, “Nene has been a friend, and I know that the development of Upper Manya is close to his heart. Upper Manya needs to be united because, without unity, we cannot achieve development. The politics are behind us now, and I call on all members of the Upper Manya community, both at home and abroad, to help develop our community.
“It is fortunate that the chief has encouraged us to engage in agriculture because he is a farmer himself. The NDC government has also established a farmer service center that will provide farmers with access to machinery, land, and other agricultural resources,” the MP said.
Nene Jebiam, another divisional chief, pledged his support to Nene Ofei Bosso.
He described the installation of the new chief as a much needed and positive development for the community.
