District inaugurates first basic school cadet corps in Ashanti

Bonwire (Ash), Aug 15, GNA - In a bid to instil discipline into school children, the authorities of the Bonwireman International Basic School at Bonwire in the Ejisu-Juaben district has inaugurated the first Basic School Cadet Corp in the school.

Inaugurating it at a colourful ceremony on Monday, Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, the District Chief Executive, urged parents to be prepared to sell their valuables and invest the money in the education of their children since it would yield dividend in future. He commended the school authorities for their thoughtfulness and initiative to inculcate such sterling virtues of discipline and good moral values into the school children by setting up the corps, adding, "Discipline and sound moral upbringing are indispensable ingredients for children to achieve high academic laurels needed for the country's development".

Mr. David Owusu Akosah from the District Education directorate, for his part called on parents to ensure that their children lived and grew up in the right environment to help bring out their hidden talents and capabilities.

He commended the staff and students of private schools for striving always to assist children under their tutelage to obtain high scores in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Mr Akosah, particularly lauded private school teachers for their dedication and commitment to work at all times sometimes under very challenging constraints. Mr. Joseph Gyamfi, proprietor of the school, appealed to the district assembly, donor agencies and philanthropist to assist the school to raise 20 million cedis for the purchase of musical instruments and uniforms for the corps. The cadet corps, which had earlier mounted a parade to the admiration of the audience, also treated them to 'kete' traditional drumming and dancing.
