Disaster management Training Workshop end in Zabzugu

Zabzugu, (NR) July 24, GNA - A three-day disaster management training workshop, organized jointly by the Zabzugu/Tatale World Vision Area Development Programme and the World Vision Ghana Humanitarian Emergency Affairs has ended at Zabzugu in the Zabzugu/Tatale District of Northern Region.

The participants included officials from NADMO, the Department of Community Development, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana Education Service, Information Services Department, and the Social Welfare Department.

There were also participants from non-governmental organisations.

Some of the topics treated are Climate Change, Concept of Disaster Preparedness, Overview of Global and Regional Humanitarianism Concept of Disaster Management.

In his closing remarks, the Manager of Gusheigu World Vision, Mr. Simon Kunyangna, said the aim of the training workshop was to build the capacities of the participants to facilitate communities to develop their disaster preparedness plans towards disaster management.

Mr. Kunyangna stressed the need for the participants to mainstream Disaster Management into their public education and outreach programmes to help build the resilience of communities to the growing devastative impacts of disasters.

He indicated that the concept of disaster preparedness, which included detection and determination of early warning systems, vulnerability and capacity assessment were the tools to develop community disaster preparedness.

He said many areas across the country were being troubled by disasters so issues of disaster must be taken seriously to reduce tragedies.
