Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Kennedy Osei Nyarkoh has expressed concern about the poor road network in the Eastern Region.

The situation, he said, has negatively affected the health and well-being of people there for decades.

He said it takes commuters longer period to cover short distances especially on those that link farming communities to urban centres.

Kennedy Osei Nyarkoh who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru in the Eastern region revealed this in an interview with Nana Yaw Opare (Wofa) host of “Mantam Mpuntuo” show on Onua FM.

He, however, said government is putting in measures to change the story.

The Deputy Minister claimed he has lobbied through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to get most of the deplorable roads in his area constructed.

“I had a vision when I was first elected as a Member of Parliament and that was to ensure most of the deplorable roads in the constituency are tarred so that it becomes a legacy for me and I’m not reneging on that promise”.

He added, “Even though my predecessors couldn’t do it, but I have fought so hard to ensure all the major roads in the constituency are done.”

He mentioned that construction works have progressed steadily on Akyem Swedru and Awisa town roads. Also, he said, Akyem Oda to Amanfopong, Akyem Swedru to Aduasa and Akotikrom among others are also under construction and are expected to be completed in June or July.

Kennedy Osei Nyarkoh was optimistic that the contractors would be able to complete the roads on time to bring relief to people in the area.

He, therefore, appealed to the people in the area to remain calm and keep supporting and embracing government policies to ensure total development.
