The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister and Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo have embarked on a vigorous educational campaign against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the Lower Manya Krobo municipality.

The Deputy Minister, Samuel Nuettey Ayertey and the MCE, Simon Kweku Tetteh accompanied by some NPP constituency party executives as part of the activities, donated several COVID-19 prevention items including veronica buckets, liquid soaps, rolls of tissues, hand sanitisers, among many other items to various groups in the area.

The items were presented to the groups including auto mechanics, market women, drivers’ unions and other members of the public at separate ceremonies across the municipal during the week.

Explaining the purpose for the presentation, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister while highlighting the threat posed by the pandemic reiterated the need for the general public to stay healthy during and after the outbreak.

Lower Manya Krobo recorded its first case of the virus in the Eastern region and the aspiring lawmaker believes residents of the area must remain healthy to enable them vote for him in the general elections hence the need to safeguard their health.

The items, he said, were intended to provide ready COVID-19 prevention activities to the beneficiaries to keep them safe from contracting the virus.

The deputy minister who is an aspiring member of parliament for the area also took the opportunity to spell his vision to the people as he urged them to support his parliamentary bid.

On his part, the MCE, Simon Kweku Tetteh admonished the people to disregard all false information and stay away from spreading unsubstantiated stories about the pandemic but rather, seek information from relevant agencies and personnel.

He was hopeful that the country was likely to succeed in its fight against the coronavirus if the citizenry adhered to all the precautions being preached including the ban on mass gatherings, handwashing, wearing of face mask, using hand sanitizers, etc. and called on all and sundry to be cautious.

The team also embarked on a coronavirus awareness campaign to help fight the pandemic, intended at aiding increase awareness, sensitize, and avert the spread of the lethal disease in the various communities.

Asked how the assembly was raising further awareness of the coronavirus among the people, the MCE said information vans were embarking on sensitisation and educational campaign in the communities of the municipality and urged the public to stick to the various precautionary measures outlined by the Ghana Health Service and other institutions to help save lives.
