Deputy Health Minister, others offer free treatment

Wa, Dec. 27, GNA- Mrs. Gladys Nortey-Ashitey, a Deputy Minister of Health led three other medical Doctors to treat people in various communities of the Upper West Region on various diseases. Apart from the treatment, the team also held a lot of educational programmes to sensitise them on basic health issues that could degenerate into serious issues if care was not taken. The team, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service was able to treat about two thousand people at the end of their four-day operations in Loggu and Funsi in the Wa East District, Dorimon in the Wa West District and Gwollu in the Sissala West District.

Mrs. Ashitey attributed some of the diseases they treated to fatigue, stress and hunger and malnourishment particularly among children and advised the parents to consider sending their babies for monthly check-ups to avoid malnutrition among the children. Mrs. Ashitey, who is also the member of Parliament for Ledzekuku also advised the people to take advantage of the National Health Insurance Scheme so as to expose some of the ailments they have been harbouring for sometime. She however, warned against politicising the scheme as such a move could spell doom for their various communities since diseases have no respect for political colours.

The Deputy Minister and the team spent their Christmas treating people of different ailments in Gwollu and its surrounding villages in the Sissala West district.
