Departmental heads urged to exercise effective supervision

Sekondi May 16, GNA- Mr. Anthony Evans Amoah, the Western Regional Minister, on Wednesday called on heads of government institutions to exercise effective supervision of their staff to avoid misuse of working hours to enhance productivity.

He said it has come to the notice of the Regional Administration that workers reported late for work and left the office before closing time. Mr Amoah made the call in an address read for him by Mr. Kwesi Blay, Deputy Regional Minister, at a meeting of the heads of the various institutions at Sekondi.

The Minister said, "Some of the personnel, I am told, absent themselves without any justifiable cause whilst others either report late or close well before the official closing time". He said now that government was initiating sustentative review of workers' salaries, it was up to workers to reciprocate the gesture by working harder. Mr. Amoah said the heads of the various institutions would be held responsible for any form of lapses or misconduct on the part of their staff.

He said the final document on a blueprint for the development of the region has been completed and a forum would be organised for a cross-section of the people to discuss strategies for its implementation to accelerate the development of the region. Mr. Amoah asked the heads to keep abreast with government policies, to enable them to influence programmes concerning their sectors towards the achievement of the various policy objectives. He also asked them to support the Regional Coordinating Council to enable it work effectively to improve the living standards of the people.
