Decongestion exercise to hit Takoradi market circle on Monday – STMA

Authorities at the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) hints of possible decongestion exercise within the Central Business District (CBD) of Takoradi popularly known as the Takoradi Market Circle and some selected areas within the Metropolis tomorrow, Monday, 15 January 2018.

The decongestion exercise which is scheduled to take place at 4 am tomorrow morning marks the commencement of the second phase of the assemblies plan to decongest and beautify the central business district of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The first phase of the whole decongestion exercise took place on the 4th day of December 2017 with a combined team of security personnel drawn from the police, military and the metro guards units totalling 27.

The objective of the first phase to the exercise was to relocate all unauthorized transport terminals within the central business district of Takoradi and other targeted areas like the Jubilee Park, and Mankesim White House area to the rehabilitated transport terminal at Apremdo.

According to the Mayor of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Anthony K. K. Sam, the second Phase of the exercise which will commence tomorrow, Monday 15, the assembly seeks to free the inner perimeter of the Takoardi Market Circle and also to demolish unauthorized structures along the streets of Sekondi and Takoradi.

“We had series of engagement with the market women, talking them to understand why we need to embark on this decongestion exercise and I hope they are going to cooperate with us as promised so that we do not end up destroying their things” he added.
