Residents of Korea New Site in Mamponteng were thrown into shock following the discovery of a decomposed body in an uncompleted building in what is suspected to be a case of suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Kwabena Francis, a man believed to be in his early 60s. He was reportedly found hanging inside a fenced and gated uncompleted building.

The Assembly Member for the Bronum Electoral Area, Yamin Suleman, confirmed the incident to GhanaWeb’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Nana Peprah. He stated that he received a distress call about the suspected suicide while he was at school.

“I quickly rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, we found him hanging inside the uncompleted building. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition. We invited the police to the scene, and the body was subsequently retrieved,” he revealed.

According to the Assembly Member, the condition of the body suggests that Francis may have died more than a week ago. He further disclosed that the deceased had been missing for over two weeks, during which his family had been desperately searching for him.

“His family was already looking for him. Despite efforts by the police, my committee, and myself, he was nowhere to be found until this discovery,” he added.

Suleman explained that the body was discovered by a group of young men who had gone into a nearby bush to gather fodder for their cattle. Alarmed by a strong stench coming from the area, they decided to investigate further.

“One of the young men looked into the fenced uncompleted building and discovered the body,” he said.

He further disclosed that because the owner of the house lives abroad, authorities had to locate a caretaker to provide the keys before police officers could gain access to the premises.

While the exact circumstances surrounding the suspected suicide remain unknown, some residents shared various allegations regarding possible factors that may have contributed to the incident.

Francis was reportedly a divorcee with three children, and some neighbours believe the emotional toll of the divorce may have affected him deeply.

Other unconfirmed reports suggest that the deceased was struggling to repay a significant debt allegedly incurred by his daughter, who reportedly worked at a bank and had suffered financial losses. Residents believe these personal and financial difficulties may have contributed to the situation.

The Mamponteng Police have since taken over the case and are conducting investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
