DFP mourns Ennin

Accra, Feb. 15, GNA - The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Thursday condemned the murder of Mr Samuel Ennin, Ashanti Regional Chairman of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and appealed to the security agencies to ensure that the murderers are apprehended. In a statement signed by Mr Bede Ziedeng, Interim Deputy General Secretary, DFP said: "That incident, by all standards, is unacceptable in our society, particularly under our nascent democracy and must be nipped in the bud," it states.

DFP urged the security agencies, especially the Police Service "to rise up to the occasion by ensuring that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law".

DFP urged the GJA to stand firm and uphold their position as the fourth estate of the realm.

Unknown gunmen on Friday night shot and killed Mr Ennin at a popular spot at Pankrono Estate in Kumasi.

Mr Ennin, the Editor of the Ashh FM, a local radio station in Kumasi, was relaxing with some staff and friends of the radio station when he was shot.

According to eyewitnesses the assailants, who were in an unregistered white saloon car, entered the spot and without any provocation shot the deceased in the stomach after firing indiscriminately to frighten customers. The assailants then entered their vehicle and drove away.
