DCE urges police to improve relations with public

Juaso (Ash), Jan. 20, GNA - The Asante Akim South District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr De-graft Forkuo, has urged the Ghana Police Service to make conscious efforts to strengthen its relations with the civilian population. He said the police should become more-friendly to the people so as to win their trust and support in the fight to reduce crime. He was speaking at a get-together organised by the assembly for police personnel in the district at Juaso. The event was also used to review the performance of personnel of the service during the past year and discuss ways to enhance operational efficiency in 2011.

Mr Forkuo said security must be appreciated as a shared responsibility and for that matter there should be effective collaboration between the police and the public to rid the society of miscreants. He appealed to the public to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of criminals and bring them to justice. The DCE commended police personnel in the district for their commitment to duty, hard work and professionalism. He pledged the support of the district assembly to the police. Deputy Superintendent of Police Anthony Appiah, the District Commander, asked the officers and men to remain dedicated to the goal of making the society safe for law-abiding citizens. 20 Jan. 11
