DCE urges education to sustain women interest in Politics

Madam Vivian Anafo, District Chief Executive (DCE) of Nabdam District Assembly has called for more education to sustain the interest of women in the forth- coming district assembly elections.

Madam Anafo said the role of the assemblies in bringing development to the district would be enhanced with women playing significant roles and indicated that as mothers, they understood the needs of their people.

The DCE said this in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Nangodi, in the Nabdam District. She expressed her disappointment at the withdrawal of the only Assembly woman in the current Assembly from contesting for a second time in the forth- coming District Assembly Elections.

Asked why women showed no interest in serving in the District Assembly, she noted that some women complained of personal problems that deter them from contesting.

Madam Anafo called on the electorate to support women to overcome their challenges and serve their districts.

She noted that women received little support when they returned to their patrilineal homes to contest for political positions or assembly elections and urged the people to consider the development and expertise such people would bring on board when given the opportunity to serve their communities.

She said the role of women in the Assembly was vital and therefore the need to increase education to sustain their interests.

She encouraged Women to support their colleagues whilst urging men to support their wives and sisters contesting for political positions.

She called for more education to explain the roles of the assemblies, unit committees and assembly members, and urged respective organizations responsible for sensitization and education of communities to increase their efforts.

On the assemblies’ interventions, she stated that lots of social support interventions that addressed the needs of the vulnerable were in place to help the poor. She said beneficiaries were happy with the interventions LEAP was providing to the vulnerable.

She said poverty alleviation activities, distribution of solar lanterns, rural electrification projects, among others, were ongoing in the district to support the communities.
