DCE not happy with performance of revenue collectors

Ejura (Ash), Oct 10, GNA-Madam Elizabeth Owusu, Ejura-Sekyedumase District Chief Executive, has expressed dissatisfaction with the poor performance of the assembly's revenue collectors.

She said out of its targeted revenue of 842.5 million cedis, the assembly mobilised only 304.5 million cedis, while its expenditure stood at 298.5 million cedis.

Addressing the second ordinary meeting of the assembly at Ejura on Thursday, Madam Owusu called for efforts from all assembly members to help improve upon the finances of the assembly.

She disclosed that in a bid to reduce poverty, the assembly had through the district office of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), disbursed over 3.2 billion cedis to over 2,558 farmers to expand their farms.

Madam Owusu said the assembly also received 125 million cedis from the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) and had disbursed it to eight Community-Based Organisations (CBOs).

She, therefore, called for the active participation and involvement of all the communities in the district in the fight against the disease.

The DCE announced the formation of a 15-member district committee on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to educate the communities on the policy and the engagement of a qualified consultant to draw up comprehensive modalities for the scheme.

On developments, Madam Owusu said the district had received 1.309 billion cedis as its share of the common fund and that the bulk of the money had been spent on education, health, water and sanitation. She said the assembly has built three-unit classroom blocks with offices, stores and toilets for 14 communities from its share of the HIPC fund.

Under its sanitation programme, the DCE said the assembly has built 20-seater aqua-privy toilets for some selected communities including Ejura, Sekyedumase and Frante.
