DCE appeals for the creation of additional electoral areas

Kukuom (B/A), Oct. 23, GNA - Mr. Fleance Danso, Asunafo South District Chief Executive (DCE), has stressed the need for the creation of additional electoral areas in the district to facilitate its accelerated development.

He noted that the creation of such areas would also ensure that all communities in the district were duly represented in the District Assembly to address the peculiar needs of the people. The DCE said currently there were 22 electoral areas and 91 polling stations in the district with some of the communities being far apart. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Danso said the long distances separating the electoral areas had often led some voters to stay away from exercising their franchise during elections. He said he had already submitted a proposal to the Electoral Commission for consideration.

When contacted, the District Electoral Officer, Miss Dorcas Crentsil, explained that the creation of the electoral area and polling stations was determined by the population growth and distances between the settlements.

She said however that, all relevant information regarding the creation of electoral areas and polling stations in the district was awaiting parliamentary approval. 23 Oct. 10
